Many patients have experienced having a cavity and needing to have a traditional filling to avoid the cavity from spreading. Fillings can restore a tooth to its healthy form after suffering from a minor to a severe cavity. In this procedure, we remove the decayed enamel, clean the area, and fill the hole with tooth-colored composite resin material. If a tooth is completely overcome with decay, a more serious restoration will be needed.
When severe decay has infected most of the tooth enamel, the most effective restorative treatment would be a tooth crown. A crown is a customized tooth cap that is to be placed on the remaining, stable portion of the original tooth. After being fabricated and bonded to the stable portion, the tooth crown will look and act just like the original tooth.
If a patient has multiple teeth missing in a row or would like a simple procedure to replace a simple tooth, a dental bridge is available. A combination of two artificial anchor teeth, which are tooth crowns, and a select number of artificial middle teeth make up a bridge. Anchor teeth support the middle teeth that aren’t resting on a natural or fabricated foundation. Dental bridges allow patients to have their missing teeth replaced by tailored artificial teeth.
Missing a single tooth can impact the appearance of your smile. Patients who want a permanent replacement for their missing tooth would greatly benefit from a dental implant. The implant is made of two general parts, the implant, and the tooth crown restoration. First, the implant is surgically placed into the jaw bone where the tooth is missing, once healed, the custom-fabricated tooth crown will be placed and sealed onto the implant. Dental implants are permanent tooth replacements that provide years of functionality.
For patients who have experienced severe tooth loss, a new full set of artificially made teeth called dentures would increase their quality of life. Dentures are made to fit perfectly in your mouth and look and act like real, natural teeth.
Our dental professionals upon your appointment, if needed, will suggest and recommend restorative procedures that they believe would benefit your situation. If you have questions or would like to look into a specific treatment for your smile, contact our Vineyard, Utah, office for help.
