How To Clean Your Invisalign

Congratulations! You’ve begun or will shortly begin your journey to a brand new smile. There are many different ways to achieve the smile you’ve always wanted, one of which is Invisalign. Invisalign is a great way to straighten your teeth because it is virtually invisible, and can actually straighten teeth more quickly than traditional braces.

Unlike traditional braces which get cleaned regularly as you brush your teeth each morning and night, your Invisalign trays will need some extra TLC when it comes to cleaning. To keep them invisible, clean, and odor-free you’ll need to maintain a good cleaning routine.

First, when you remove your trays be sure to rinse them. If you allow your saliva and/or plaque to dry on the trays you can expect some unpleasant bacterial growth.

When it comes to actually cleaning your Invisalign trays you have a few options. First, you can brush them gently just as you would your teeth. But the key is to brush gently as you can scratch your aligners and leave markings, which defeats the purpose of having invisible trays!

You can also use clear, antibacterial soft soap to clean your trays. Just use a small amount and work it into a lather in and around your trays. Rinse them thoroughly.

Lastly, you can also soak your alightners in dental cleaner or the official Invisalign cleaning crystals.
Before you reinsert your trays be sure that you brush and floss your teeth to help keep your mouth healthy, avoid cavities, and to also help keep your Invisalign trays clean.

A few more tips to keeping your trays clean include removing them to eat or drink. This will eliminate any stains or discoloration to your trays from the food, and it will also keep them from stinking.

While you can brush your Invisalign trays, don’t use toothpaste, especially those that are whitening. They can be very harsh, leave your trays dull, and actually make it easier for bacteria to take up residence.

While you should use soap to wash your trays, be sure that it is clear. Like certain food and drinks, colored soap can dye or stain your trays.

As you work toward achieving the smile you’ve always wanted you want to make sure you’ve got the proper dentist care to achieve it. This means you’ll need to find a good dentist that you trust. Searching for low cost dental care, or a dentist through your dental insurance is one way to find affordable dental work. But as you consider different dentists it’s also important to choose a practice with an inviting and relaxing environment, as well as doctors that will help you feel confident and comfortable no matter what your dental needs may be.
